What Is Pharmacology - Edrophonium
Edrophonium
Edrophonium is useful in diagnosing patient with myasthenia gravis. Edrophonium is given through intramuscular and intravenous routes of administration. Edrophonium will justify the correct doses of pyridostigmine and neostigmine is given while treating patient with myasthenia gravis.
Edrophonium has 10 minutes duration of action. Edrophonium will act on the neuromuscular junction. Edrophonium will cause bradycardia, increase in peristalsis, increase from glandular secretion and bronchoconstriction.
Edrophonium will inhibit the action of acetylcholinesterase reversibly. Edrophonium will reduce the rates of breakdown of acetylcholine a the cholinergic nerve ending. Edrophonium will electrostatically bind to the anionic sites in the esterase component of the acetylcholinesterase.
Edrophonium may exacerbate and worsen asthma.
